The General Directorate of Prisons has issued a statement saying it has received around 42,000 labor law violators since the beginning of the inspection campaign.
The statement indicated that approximately 22,000 of them have been repatriated to their countries by land and air.
Maj. Abdullah Al-Harbi, a spokesman for the directorate, said: “The Kingdom’s detention centers were well-prepared and equipped in advance to receive a large number of violators. We have treated arrested expatriates humanely and have sought to respect their dignity and human rights,” he said.
Al-Harbi explained that the General Directorate of Prisons’ detention centers are responsible for receiving violators from the various localities, while the interrogation and fingerprinting process takes place at the Passport Department.
The official also said that the Passport Department offices are tasked with the mission of coordinating with transport providers via land or air to deport the violators whose paperwork and procedures are completed.
Detention centers across the Kingdom are equipped with food and medical services and are providing services to the violators, Al-Harbi pointed out.
“The Directorate of Prisons has been exerting a great deal of effort to contain the large number of illegal expatriates who have been arrested over the past few weeks,” he added.
